OTHER PLACES TO EXPLORE FURTHER AFIELD
DARTMOOR
Dartmoor offers a complete contrast to the coastal scenery. The Dartmoor National Park covers approximately 370 square miles, offering a distinctive rugged landscape to explore, with exposed granite tors and undulating valleys.
There is plenty to explore for the whole holiday party whether that be by foot, bike, horse or in the car. There is a plethora of wonderful scenery to enjoy, along with plenty of splendid fauna and a variety of livestock, including Dartmoor ponies.
SLAPTON AND TORCROSS
This area is very picturesque and offers a long strength of pebbly beach with breathtaking views directly out to sea. This area also is home to some of the UK’s rarest flora and fauna around Slapton Ley.
For keen history enthusiasts, this is a must to visit, as Slapton Sands is steeped in history. In 1943, the beach was taken over by the allied forces to use as a rehearsal area for the D-Day Landings. You can visit the stone monument which was set in place on Slapton Sands to commemorate the ill-fated servicemen and women.
NOSS MAYO, NEWTON FERRERS & WEMBURY
Both Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are picturesque riverside villages, set against a woodland backdrop. Both are a short distance from the historic city of Plymouth, offering the National Marine Aquarium and Saltram National Trust to enjoy.
A short distance along the river and towards the sea, you come across the coastal village of Wembury with its unspoilt sandy beach and plenty of opportunities for rock pooling.
